City of Greensboro Honors North Carolina Mass Band with Official June 19th Proclamation
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The City of Greensboro has officially recognized the cultural and educational impact of the North Carolina Mass Band by proclaiming June 19th, 2026, as North Carolina Mass Band Day, marking a major milestone for the organization and its statewide influence in the performing arts.
The announcement was shared by NCMB through its official Instagram page, where leadership expressed gratitude to Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter, the Greensboro City Council, and the City of Greensboro for the historic recognition. The proclamation highlights the group’s growing legacy in music education, mentorship, and community engagement across North Carolina.
Founded in 2017 as the North Carolina All-Star Band, the organization began as a summer ensemble created by band students and alumni inspired by their experiences in North Carolina school music programs. Initially rooted in the Piedmont Triad region, the group has since expanded into a statewide and national network of performers representing high schools and colleges across the country.
Following its restructuring after the 2022 season, the organization rebranded as the North Carolina Mass Band, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening performing arts programs through instruction, scholarships, mentorship, and performance opportunities. The mission centers on supporting youth development while promoting leadership, unity, and excellence in the marching arts.
Over the years, NCMB has participated in major cultural events and performances, including parades, festivals, and competitive battles of the bands. Notable milestones include the 2025 Inaugural Carolina Crankfest Battle of the Bands, the 2024 Independence Showdown, the 2023 Musical Showcase, and multiple community-driven initiatives such as the High Point Juneteenth Festival and solidarity marches supporting Black men and youth empowerment.
The organization also continues to expand its educational programming with upcoming events such as the 2026 Collegiate Audition Fair, audition prep clinics, and regional performance showcases scheduled across North Carolina and Mississippi.
NCMB leadership emphasized that the proclamation belongs not just to the organization, but to every student, alumnus, staff member, volunteer, parent, and supporter who has contributed to its growth over the years. They also reaffirmed their long-term vision of uniting and inspiring performing arts students through instruction, mentorship, and opportunity.
With the official designation of North Carolina Mass Band Day, the organization says it is only continuing its mission forward, building stronger programs, stronger students, and a stronger performing arts community across the state.
