Miss Universe Jamaica Alumna LaToya Malcolm Dies at 35, Leaving Behind a Lasting Legacy
The Jamaican entertainment and pageant communities are mourning the loss of LaToya Malcolm, a former Miss Universe Jamaica contestant and the 2024 Miss Jamaica Bikini International titleholder, who has died at the age of 35.
The Miss Universe Jamaica organization announced Malcolm's passing in a statement shared on social media, describing her as a cherished member of the pageant family. "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Miss Universe Jamaica alumna LaToya Malcolm, who proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica Competition," the organization said. "Our heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten."
The cause of Malcolm's death has not been publicly disclosed.
Beyond pageantry, Malcolm built a career that spanned more than a decade in Jamaica's entertainment industry. She worked as an actress, entertainer, dance instructor, and television host, earning a reputation for her energy, dedication, and passion for the arts. She was also involved with the Transition Project, an initiative focused on helping young people develop skills and prepare for future opportunities.
Malcolm's determination was evident throughout her pageant journey. Earlier in 2024, she captured the Miss Jamaica Bikini International crown despite experiencing the loss of her father just months before the competition. At the time, she dedicated her victory to him, crediting her resilience, family, friends, and faith for helping her persevere through one of the most difficult periods of her life.
Her final public appearance came on July 3, when she shared a behind-the-scenes photo while appearing on the Jamaican television program TVJ Smile Jamaica.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fellow pageant contestants, colleagues, friends, and supporters. Current Miss Universe Jamaica Gabrielle Henry described Malcolm's passing as "a great loss" to both her family and the Jamaican community, saying her impact and voice would not be forgotten.
