Mother Found Dead in Charlotte Home; 3-Year-Old Daughter Survived Alone for Days

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A heartbreaking discovery in a Charlotte housing complex has left authorities searching for answers after a 32-year-old mother was found dead in her home, with her 3-year-old daughter miraculously surviving alone beside her for several days.

On October 2, police responded to a home in the Southside Homes public housing community on Griffith Street after neighbors reported a strong odor coming from the residence. Inside, officers found Anbrielle Davis, 32, deceased, while her young daughter was still alive.

Investigators believe Davis had been dead for several days before the discovery. The little girl, who was unable to call for help, reportedly survived by eating cereal, candy, and drinking apple juice that she found in the home. After being rescued, she was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and is now in the care of the Department of Social Services.

The cause of Davis’s death has not yet been determined, and police are continuing their investigation. Authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.

Neighbors told police they had not seen Davis for days, but the smell eventually prompted them to contact authorities. The case has sparked community concern about welfare checks and the systems in place to protect vulnerable families living in public housing.

Officials say more information will be released once the medical examiner’s report is complete. The community is now rallying behind the surviving child, expressing grief and disbelief over the tragedy.

Please keep the family in your prayers during this difficult time.
