Greensboro Native Travis Shaw Declares for 2026 NFL Draft

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro native and standout defensive lineman Travis Shaw has officially declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, closing an important chapter in a college football journey that spanned two historic programs: the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Texas.

In a statement announcing his decision, Shaw expressed gratitude to God, his family, trainers, and the many supporters who stood by him throughout his career. He also thanked both coaching staffs that helped shape his development on and off the field.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the athletic ability to play the sport I love… I want to thank the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Coach Mack Brown, and his staff… I also want to thank the University of Texas, Coach Sark, and his staff… Both schools played a huge role in my development on and off the field… After a lot of prayer and conversations with my family, I am officially declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft.”

Shaw first rose to prominence as one of the nation’s top high school prospects out of Grimsley High School in Greensboro. Known for his rare combination of size and athleticism, he entered college football as a highly rated defensive lineman and one of the most heralded recruits in recent UNC history.

During his three seasons at UNC, Shaw developed as a powerful presence along the defensive front, gaining valuable experience against top-level competition while continuing to refine his technique and football IQ.

In 2025, Shaw transferred to the University of Texas, where he joined a talented Longhorns defense under head coach Steve Sarkisian. During his time in Austin, Shaw contributed on the interior defensive line, finishing the season with 13 total tackles and one tackle for loss, while providing physicality and depth in the trenches.

Beyond the stat sheet, Shaw’s journey has been defined by perseverance and growth. In his announcement, he reflected on the adversity and sacrifices required to reach this point, emphasizing the mental and personal development that came along with his football career.

“Although this journey wasn’t easy and was filled with sacrifices and adversity, it has been a testament to the man I am and continue to become. You may bend, but never fold.”

As Shaw prepares for the next level, NFL scouts will evaluate his combination of size, strength, experience, and upside. With experience at two Power Five programs and a background rooted in one of North Carolina’s strongest football communities, Shaw now turns his focus toward pre-draft training, evaluations, and the opportunity to compete at the professional level.

Shaw’s declaration represents another proud moment for Greensboro football, as the city continues to produce talent capable of reaching the sport’s highest stage.
